American Fidelity completes transaction for $74.95 million, which includes the 12-story OPUBCO office tower. The property at 9000 N. Broadway includes a 12-story office tower, manufacturing plant, parking garage, day care center and about 150 acres. OPUBCO plans to lease five floors in the tower through Dec. 2015, and will have an indefinite lease on the production area that houses the newspaper’s printing presses.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to grow, with 150 acres included in the purchase. We will be able to expand as our business grows,” said Dave Carpenter, president and chief operating officer of AFA. “The purchase benefits both parties as OPUBCO will stay at the location for several years, allowing them time to plan for their next move, and the press facility can continue their operation without interruption. American Fidelity will have ample time to plan our relocation to ensure a smooth transition.”
AFA did not disclose when it plans to occupy the property, or any additional expansion plans on the site. It is currently housed in three buildings near N.W. 17th Street and Classen Boulevard and at 5100 N. Classen Blvd.
In September 2011, Denver Billionaire Philip Anschutz’s The Anschutz Corp. purchased OPUBCO’s assets including the The Oklahoman newspaper from the Gaylord family.
