Earth 2 Urban, a joint effort between Earth Elements entrepreneurs’ kitchen and Urban Agrarian, opened an urban market and kitchen, and an online ordering system for home delivery or pickup near the Farmers Public Market, 1235 S.W. Second.
Earth Elements features a licensed commercial kitchen space for rent and three workstations for a variety of cooking, food processing, labeling, packing, refrigerators, freezers and dry storage space. Space is available for shortand long-term rental.
Urban Agrarian has an on-site market, a seasonal mobile market and online ordering. The purchases benefit Oklahoma farms, ranches, dairies and food producers. It features locally produced vegetable, meat and dairy items.
“We want to give customers more options, and producers more confidence to either get started or grow their current operation,” says Matthew Burch, Urban Agrarian founder.
Urban Wine Works at the Plaza, 1749 N.W. 16th, offers a variety of wines made in Oklahoma, as well as a lunch and dinner tapas menu.
Owner Doug Stobaugh carries on a five-generation tradition of wine making that began in Germany. The family has had operations in the Texas hill country and California, and now calls McAlester home.
The tasting room allows customers to purchase wine by the glass. Bottles of wine also are available for purchase. Wines range from $5 to $8 per glass, and bottles range from $15 to $30. The wine is currently made in McAlester at the family’s Whispering Meadows Vineyards & Winery, but in the coming months, Stobaugh says he plans to make and bottle all of the wine for the Plaza District store on-site.
Don’t go looking for Midwest Trophy at 3201 S.E. 29th. The company is now known as MTM Recognition Corp.
The name change comes in the company’s 40th year, and consolidates all its operations under one identity. The company has had continuous growth over the years and added facilities around the country.

Ideal Homes, the Norman-based home-building company founded in 1990, plans to build its first gated community, The Springs at Settlers Ridge, just west of Garth Brooks Boulevard on N.W. Third Street in Yukon.
Geared toward busy professionals and those who don’t want the hassle of exterior maintenance, the community offers round-the-clock security, a swimming pool and a workout facility.
Ideal will offer a product it is calling “Reunion Homes.” These will feature floor plans from just fewer than 1,600 square feet to approximately 2,000 square feet, with 10-foot-high ceilings, designer kitchens and perks such as spacious bathrooms, covered front porches and patios.
“Like everything Ideal builds, our new Reunion Homes will meet the highest standards for energy efficiency and quality performance,” says Vernon McKown, co-owner of Ideal. “They will look beautiful, provide the ultimate in comfortable living and save their owners hundreds of dollars a year on heating and cooling costs.”
Andy Alligator’s Fun Park is adding a water park. Owners Russell and Robbie Allison broke ground in October on the water park at Interstate 35 and Indian Hills road between Norman and Moore. Set to open in May 2012, it will adjoin the fun park and include a 700-foot lazy river and a slide complex with the state’s first four-lane mat racer.
Food will be available, and visitors can rent cabanas with furnishings.
The park will operate seasonally for about 100 days per year and add 60 employees.
The general contractor and builder is Aztec Building Systems in Norman, and financing for the project is through First Bank & Trust Co. of Norman. The master planner and aquatic engineer is Texasbased Brannon Corporation.
Devon Energy Corp. officials and Oklahoma City Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid helped break ground for a building expansion project at Special Care, 12201 N. Western. It is a United Way partner agency that offers affordable, year-round early childhood education, therapy and after-school and summer programs for children — both with and without special needs — ranging from age 6 through high school.
Devon contributed $500,000 toward the $4.8 million project. It includes a 20,000-square-foot expansion that will house classrooms, an auditorium, a dining hall, a safe room and an outdoor learning area. The first phase is funded, but $2 million still is needed to complete the project.
The organization serves about 150 students and has more than 200 children on the waiting list. The group is led by Pam Newby, founder and CEO. –Kelley Chambers
