Fortune magazine has ranked five Oklahoma companies among its Top 100 Companies to Work For list including three Oklahoma City companies. The Feb. 2 edition of the magazine will be available Jan. 26 while the list is currently posted on their Web site.

Devon is ranked 13th and is among the list's fastest-moving companies. In 2008, the company ranked 48th in its initial year on the list. Devon ranked the highest among energy companies.

The magazine distinguished Devon for its low turnover rate -- four percent -- and its innovative 401(k) retirement plan, which calls for annual company contributions of up to 22 percent of an eligible employee's salary.

"While making the Fortune list is wonderful recognition for the company, it says even more about our employees," Larry Nichols, Devon chairman and CEO, said in a statement. "Their values and their commitment are what make Devon a great place to work. We have an outstanding company with many wonderful assets, but we believe our people are at the foundation of our strength."

Devon is listed among the magazine's Blue-Ribbon Companies for being included on at least four of the magazine's lists. In addition to being on the Best Companies to Work For list, Devon ranked among the Fortune 500 as well as America's Most Admired Companies and the Global Most Admired Companies list.

American Fidelity Assurance Company was named today to the magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list for the sixth straight year. AFA is ranked No. 46 on this year's list. It placed 24th in 2008 and 47th in 2007.

"Making the list is quite an honor. But, it is much more than that. This is an extension of our strategic initiative to be an employer of choice. All of our efforts help us support a unique corporate culture with an eye toward providing for more than just success in business, but also fostering a positive work environment," AFA CEO Bill Cameron, said in a statement. "We greatly appreciate the national acknowledgment of these efforts and fully believe our Colleagues deserve much of the credit."

Fortune cited AFA, one of the U.S.' largest private, family-owned life insurance businesses, for offering an on-site fitness center and café with healthy menu options.

"I commend American Fidelity and its strong workforce for maintaining one of the nation's best work environments. The company's placement on the list for the sixth year in a row is a testament to their commitment to being a Great Place to Work," Gov. Brad Henry, said in a statement. "And the company's choice to also give back to the community during their celebration time also demonstrates American Fidelity's commitment to making Oklahoma a great place to live."

Chesapeake Energy placed 73rd on the list. In 2008, it ranked 61st.

Tulsa's QuikTrip and Lawton's Stanley, with 250 local employees for the Arligton, Va.-based company, also made the list at No. 27 and No. 70, giving Oklahoma five listings.

Fortune assembles the rankings annually with the San Francisco-based Great Place to Work Institute that surveys nearly 10,000 employees with 446 companies.
