There they grow!

Take a look at some new sites, recent renovations and ongoing projects around the metro

PR firm Saxum acquired new digs along Automobile Alley when HSE Architects helped renovate the historic Kirkpatrick Oil Company building at 1300 N. Broadway.

The $502,000 project embraced the firm’s identity while also maintaining the site’s legacy via images that pay homage to former owner John Kirkpatrick, including one in the lobby. Kirkpatrick’s wall-size world map was removed carefully from plaster and remains on display.

Ending an NBA lockout is even better when your team’s home looks shinier than ever. Such is the case with the final phase of a three-part, $100 million renovation of Chesapeake Energy Arena, 100 W. Reno. These improvements include changes to the main concourse, from a new ceiling and terrazzo floor to brighter walls. Twenty wedge-shaped video monitors now extend from the ceiling, each comprised of six 46-inch screens.

Oklahoma City Community College broke ground on its 1,000-seat Performing Arts Theater, to be located on the northwest side of the campus, 7777 S. May. Budgeted at $16 million, the building is scheduled to be complete in December. “Let me invite you to reserve a date for sometime in the spring of 2013, when we’ll be enjoying the first of many performances in the new theater,” said Paul Sechrist, OCCC president, at the groundbreaking.

Good things should grow at Oklahoma City University’s recently dedicated Chicksaw Garden, located south of the University Center at N.W. 25th Street and Florida Avenue. OCU President Robert Henry said the garden “will be a place where students and campus visitors can relax, study or just think in peace while surrounded by beauty.” Separated into quadrants to represent the four seasons of the year and life, the spot is anchored by a “Chickasaw Warrior” statue, designed by OCU alum Enoch Kelly Haney.
