Even though I grew up a Yankee — and love the Yankees — I consider myself an Okie. So, I have a soft spot in my heart for good barbecue. Iron Starr does not disappoint. Try the chopped brisket sandwich topped with slaw and a side of red bliss potato salad. It’s barb-i-licious.

Three words: fried green beans. No, it’s not a staple at the Texas State Fair. This side dish is one of the reasons I enjoy lunch at Paseo Grill. Pick a beautiful, 75-degree day; plant yourself on their patio; and order a sandwich with a side of FGBs. Prime time!

Tremendous menu at Lottinvilles. One of my favorites is Bennett’s Rotisserie Roast Chicken with a side of mashers. You need the mashers, frankly, because while the chicken would make Col. Sanders blush, it’s entirely too healthy without them.
