Now that the NBA is going back to work, it’s time to think about goals for the coming year. What are yours?

“To continue to work toward making Oklahoma City the shining city on the plains that it must become; take the family to Yellowstone/ Tetons this summer so that we can get as close to a grizzly as possible without being eaten (Note to self: Stock up on bells and pepper spray); and read more physics books to determine options for either 1) cloning, or 2) extending the space-time continuum to mitigate the limitations of the 24-hour day.”

“Back trouble limited my exercise in 2011, so I hope to get back to ‘most days,’ instead of ‘a few days per week’ — 250-plus workouts would feel good. My 20th wedding anniversary is in 2012, and I’d like my wife to feel like spending 20 more with me, so that makes my goal to be the best husband I can be to her. My family spent a lot of time in doctors’ offices in 2011; only wellness visits in 2012, please!”

“To learn to play the harmonica and teach my grandson and take a Spanish course.”

Mayor
City of Oklahoma City

“To elevate the conversation about the importance of the arts in the forward momentum of Oklahoma City. We’re making great strides, but we need to amplify the voice, and expand the outreach of our creative vision.”

“To lose that final five pounds and exercise; complete Major Gateways for the Oklahoma Health Center; hug those I love and value more often; delete half of my Facebook friends; and spend more time at the new home at Grand Lake.”

“To shine more light on the great Oklahoma actors, film crews, investors, legislators and filmmakers that are helping the Oklahoma film industry thrive. Film has the ability to reach every corner of the globe. We need to support the unique Oklahoma voices that are adding to the global chorus of ideas and perspectives.”

“To make sure I continue
to block off time to date my wife — I don’t take that for granted. And
to be able to make time for a quiet breakfast with my girls. I also want
to teach my dog not to jump on people when they come in the house. I
have a very large dog (a 55-pound labradoodle) and she loves new
people.”

“To weigh less when I’m
64 than I did when I was 54. And when I accompany my wife — who’s an
avid birder — on our next birdwatching vacation, I’m aiming to go the
whole time without making one snarky comment.”

“To accomplish two
central tasks, both personally and professionally. Personally, I hope to
run my first 10K race, and professionally, I want to keep my calendar
and email more organized so I can mange my time more efficiently.”

“To spend more time outdoors. More sidewalk, less tunnel. More cookouts, less drive-thru. More camping, less couching.”

“To pay down debt. Take a
road trip to the Carolinas in the early summer to see old friends, the
Smokey mountains, the white sandy beaches with the friendly Atlantic
ocean. They’re calling my name. Get an iPad or some kind of tablet. Stay healthy, physically and mentally fit!”
