Eastword
was launched as a community newspaper for the market area comprised of
Midwest City, Del City, Choctaw, Nicoma Park and Tinker Air Force Base.
“With a weekly circulation in excess of 8,000, it has a firmly
established base of readers,” observed TMG Publisher, Bill Bleakley.
“The
transfer of ownership will firmly complete the evolution of the
publication as a community newspaper,” Bleakley said. “The publishers,
owners and staff all reside within the market it serves.”
Heading
up the new publishing enterprise as publisher and co-owner will be
current Eastword editor, Tim Farley (pictured). Staff members, Scott
Wanish and Sara Atkins, will continue their current positions. Farley
will be moving the newspaper’s offices to Midwest City. Local investors
will share in its ownership.
“From the perspective of Eastword’s
readers and advertisers, the transfer of ownership should be seamless,”
said Bleakley. “Tierra Media has provided Eastern Oklahoma County with
an outstanding community newspaper. Tim and the staff will take it to
new heights, with strong local roots.”
Farley plans to keep Eastword’s websites operating as the online component of the newspaper.
