State unemployment rate up again in October



For October 2011, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Oklahoma increased by 0.2
percentage points to 6.1 percent.

The national unemployment dropped by 0.1 percentage points to 9.0 percent for the same period. Over the year, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined
by 0.8 percentage points.

In October 2011, Oklahoma’s statewide seasonally adjusted employment and seasonally
adjusted unemployment both rose over the month. For the October-to-October period, statewide
seasonally adjusted unemployment dropped by 14,240 persons (-11.9 percent).

Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted NONFARM EMPLOYMENT expanded by 9,100 jobs (+0.6 percent) in
October 2011. Seasonally adjusted NONFARM EMPLOYMENT for the United States added 80,000 jobs
(+0.1 percent) from September to October. When compared to October 2010, state NONFARM
EMPLOYMENT rose by 46,600 jobs (+3.1 percent).

• Seven of Oklahoma’s 11 statewide supersectors posted job gains in October, led by a 3,900-job addition in
Trade, Transportation & Utilities.
• The largest monthly job drop was provided by Government (-1,100 jobs), driven entirely by losses in State
Government.
• Nine statewide supersectors added jobs during the October-to-October period. Manufacturing claimed the
largest over-the-year gain of 10,500 jobs.
• In October, Information and Other Services were the only supersectors that recorded over-the-year
losses.
