Cancer Sucks, Inc. donates $10,000 to pediatric cancer research

Cancer Sucks, Inc. will present Children’s Hospital Foundation with a $10,000 donation that will help transform the health of Oklahoma’s children by funding pediatric cancer research to be used in the study of genetics.

The donation marks another significant stride toward establishing an endowed chair in pediatric genetics. To honor the generous gift, an exam room in the Jimmy Everest Cancer Center/OU Children’s Physicians Building will bear the Cancer Sucks, Inc. name.

Genetics testing is critical to increasing our ability to answer questions regarding how cancer develops, diagnosing subtypes of cancer and making it possible to prevent such disease.

“This contribution is essential to continuing research in genetics as it is an extremely important field to cancer,” said Kathy McCracken, CHF Executive Director. “Cancer Sucks, Inc.’s commitment to cancer research and healthcare for Oklahoma’s children is steadfast and has endured over many years.”

The contribution is inspired by Cancer Sucks Inc.’s deep desire to raise money for cancer research. The organization was founded in 1998 out of the pain and frustration that comes with losing a loved one to cancer, combined with the desire to do what they can to prevent anyone from experiencing the same loss.

Cancer Sucks, Inc. was chosen as one of the designated charities to participate in Turn Tulsa Pink, a countrywide effort to honor and support all women and children who have battled or lost their battle to cancer. Cancer Sucks will host a Car and Motorcycle Show at The Admiral Twin Drive In on Saturday, October 22. Participants are encouraged to donate $20 and general admission is $5 per car. Activities include live music, vendors and door prizes.

Children’s Hospital Foundation helps to fund pediatric research, education and clinical care, ultimately supporting The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center in serving every county in Oklahoma with more than 134,000 annual patient visits.  All funds raised through Children’s Hospital Foundation stay in Oklahoma so children will have access to exceptional pediatric specialists without having to leave the state.  Despite dedicated and steady progress, it is still faced with obstacles in the quest to combat pediatric illness and disability.
