Oklahoma City Community Foundation Awards doles out grants


$63,375 dealt to five area nonprofits.


The Oklahoma City Community Foundation Board of Trustees has approved $63,375 in community program grants to be awarded to five metropolitan area charitable organizations.

Four grants were made through the Sustainable Organization Support (SOS) Grant Program that supports activities to improve the sustainability of nonprofit organizations, allowing them to grow to meet community needs and opportunities. Additionally, one grant was awarded through the Literacy is for Everyone (LIFE) Initiative, which assists organizations in providing opportunities for children and adults to read, write and speak English at a functional level.

"The Oklahoma City Community Foundation is committed to helping charitable organizations better serve our community and we are pleased to award these grants to five worthy projects," says Nancy B. Anthony, executive director.

Below are the grants approved by the Trustees:

Sustainable Organization Support Grant Program
* Cavett Kids Foundation - $14,575 to support infrastructure development and governance transition.

* Center for Children and Families Inc. (CCFI) - $7,800 to implement a strategic communications plan.

* Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma - $15,000 to provide staff and volunteer training to increase retention and to integrate outlying communities into the regional organization.

*  Putnam City Schools Foundation - $10,000 to develop a five-year strategic plan and to develop marketing and fundraising materials.

Literacy is for Everyone Initiative
* Oklahoma City Metro Literacy Coalition - $16,000 for a literacy referral center in partnership with the Metropolitan Library System.
