Over three and a half percent increase from last year reported

Those departing Oklahoma City this summer may need to prepare for longer lines at Will Rogers World Airport due to a spike in travelers.

For June, airport officials reported a 3.56-percent increase in passenger enplanements over the same time last year.

Airport Spokeswoman Karen Carney said that Oklahoma City is bringing in more tourism traffic during the traditionally busy summer months.

“We had a sense that this would be a busy summer based on May’s numbers, which were up 2.25 percent, and it seems to be panning out” she said. “Travelers are flying to all sorts of leisure destinations, and a number of large conferences and prestigious sporting events are bringing people to our city.”
