Online education company to expand with 50 new hires

Advanced Academics plans to expand its presence in Bricktown and add 50 jobs in the coming months. The online learning company opened more than a decade ago and occupied space in the Kingman Building.

In 2009, the company moved to the recently renovated Candy Factory, One East Sheridan Ave. It will occupy four floors in the seven-story building.

The company’s proprietary learning platform provides online education for grades six through 12. Its programs are used in 30 states.

“Parents and students in Oklahoma and across the country are increasingly turning to online education for quality instruction customized to each student’s individual learning style, whether they are looking for a comprehensive virtual school or online classes to supplement their local offerings and school districts,” said Jeffrey A. Elliott, Advanced Academics president in a prepared statement. “Our expanded home office will help us to better serve the thousands of middle and high school students who depend upon us for their education.”

The additional floor will house principals, assistant principals and instructional staff. The vacated space will be redesigned and reconfigured. The lobby area of each floor is being updated with video monitors and artwork.

Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce Dave Lopez praised Advanced Academics and its commitment to both Oklahoma and Bricktown.

“Oklahoma boasts a vibrant and diverse business community, where home-grown technology firms like Advanced Academics are taking root, thriving and creating jobs despite today’s challenging economic climate,” he said in a prepared statement. “At the Department of Commerce, our job is to ensure that Advanced Academics and organizations like it have the support they need to flourish here in Oklahoma.”
