Chesapeake Energy Corp. jumped 10 spots in Computerworld’s 2011 “100 best places to work in IT” from its ranking last year.

Chesapeake came in at No. 7, while another Oklahoma City-based company, American Fidelity Assurance Co., made the list at No. 11.
Chesapeake Senior Vice President of Information Technology Cathy Tompkins said it is an honor for the IT department because of the work it puts into “shaping our nation’s energy and economic future.”
“This award reflects the commitment of our management to make sure Chesapeake has the best technology and information systems in the energy industry,” she said in a prepared statement, "and that we can attract the best IT people from all over the country to work here.”
Chesapeake was not only recognized for excellent work in the IT field, but also for the resources it provides for its employees, according to Computerworld’s website. Resources available to employees range from a 72,000-square-foot fitness center to a gaming center and tanning beds.
American Fidelity’s top-15 ranking makes this its ninth consecutive appearance on the top-100 list.
Kim Fisher, American Fidelity CIO, said the company is committed to making its employees happy to come to work.
“National recognition like we receive from Computerworld is a reflection of the commitment and enthusiasm of our company to create a positive environment so employees look forward to coming to work each day,” she said. “Our employees are connected to the overall goals of the company and see how they are making a difference.”
