State, central Oklahoma counties see drops in unemployment for March


Large drops of a percent or more registered in central Oklahoma counties


Oklahoma’s unemployment rate fell 0.4 percent over the month to 6.1 percent in March 2011. This rate is down from 7.3 percent over the year. The national unemployment rate fell to 8.8 percent over the month.

Central Oklahoma counties experienced large drops. Oklahoma County’s unemployment rate dropped from 6.6 percent in February 2011 to 5.5 percent in March 2011. This is a 1.6-percent difference from March 2010. Cleveland and Canadian counties both experienced a drop from 5.6 percent to 4.6 percent over the same time period. Canadian County was at 6.1 percent in March 2011, while Cleveland County was at 6.2 percent.
