Oklahoma City-based companies Chesapeake Energy, Devon Energy and American Fidelity Assurance Company have been named to Fortune magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work for." Oklahoma City was the only city to have three companies in the top 35.
Devon, at No. 20, took the top Oklahoma spot. "It is especially gratifying for Devon to receive this recognition at a time when the nation slowly recovers from a recession," said Larry Nichols, Devon's chairman and chief executive officer. Devon was also the highest-ranking energy company on the list, edging out San Antonio's NuStar Energy at 21.
The third highest energy company ranked was Chesapeake Energy, at 34. Chesapeake jumped up almost 40 spots from No. 73 last year. American Fidelity Assurance Company came in directly behind Devon, at 35. It rose 11 spots on the list from the previous year.
Of the four Oklahoma companies represented in the list, the only one not from the OKC area is Tulsa-based Quiktrip.
"Oklahoma City has always been committed to developing and maintaining a strong workforce, and this is further proof," said Roy Williams, president and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber.
