A compilation of metro area sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission shows several cities continue to see declines.
The November distribution of collections, primarily representing local tax receipts from September business, show declines in five of seven metro area cities when compared to the same month last year. Those cities include Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore, Chickasha and Guthrie.
Both Midwest City and Norman saw increases.
However, at this time last year, Norman’s tax rate was 3 percent, as opposed to its current 3.5 percent rate, keeping the Sooner town in the black thus far in year-over-year collections.
Norman received $4,131,132 in November, an increase of 9.9 percent over the same month last year; Midwest City received $1,991,541, a 0.2-percent increase.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma City has experienced nine consecutive declines in year-over-year collections.
Oklahoma City’s November 2009 distribution was $26,408,993, compared to $30,121,634 in November 2008, representing a 12.3-percent drop.
Edmond experienced a 14-percent decline; Moore, a 2.6-percent decline; Chickasha, an 18.5-percent decline; and Guthrie, an 8.5-percent decline.
