Compass briefs: B&B Theatres Windsor 10 movie theater opens

Coolgreens will open a second location at 14101 N May Ave., Ste. 104, in Quail Village at May Avenue and Memorial Road. The eatery, specializing in salads, wraps and yogurt, is scheduled to open in February. It opened its first location in October 2009 at 6467 Avondale Drive in Nichols Hills Plaza.

The B.C. Clark Jr. Endowed Chair will be created at Oklahoma City University’s Meinders School of Business, funded by a $1 million bequest from Clark’s late wife, Jeroldine Zachritz Clark.

The Clark family, which owns B.C. Clark Jewelers, Oklahoma’s oldest jewelry store and the state’s oldest retail store under the same name and ownership, has long-standing ties to OCU; B.C. Clark Jr., now 96, attended there.

“The Clark family has shown a tremendous commitment to Oklahoma City University,” says Tom McDaniel, university president. “We appreciate the time, effort and financial support the Clarks have given to foster academic excellence at OCU.

Jeroldine Zachritz Clark’s legacy will benefit generations of students to come.”

The gift brings OCU’s $50 million “Cradle of Dreams” campaign to $47.2 million.

Oklahoma Employees Credit Union has added Oklahoma City Thrift Federal Credit Union to its family with their recent merger. OKC Thrift Credit Union chose to merge into OECU to provide a more complete suite of products and financial services to its membership.

With the merger, OECU will retain all of OKC Thrift’s employees, branches and assets, increasing OECU to $310 million in assets. All OKC Thrift members will become OECU members.

Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology board members recently approved $1.8 million for the Oklahoma Applied Research Support program to fund 10 projects chosen on the basis of quality science and expectations for commercialization. They also were advised that OCAST is expecting to eliminate the $1.9 million spring competition for the applied research program as a budget-cutting measure.

A one-to-one match is required of successful applicants for Oklahoma Applied Research Support awards, most of which represent research projects that run for up to three years.

Michael Carolina, executive director of OCAST, described the new research projects as an important part of the state’s rapidly diversifying economy.

“Not only does Oklahoma gain from the infusion of investment research into the economy; our state benefits from the improved opportunity to create Oklahoma-based businesses that will sustain us far into the future,” he says.

OCAST applied research funds target accelerated and proof-of-concept technology that has significant potential for producing a commercially successful product, process or service with high potential to benefit the state’s economy.

The B&B Theatres Windsor 10 movie theater recently opened its doors at 4623-A NW 23 in Windsor Hills Shopping Center, located at the intersection of NW 23 Street and Meridian Avenue.

General Manager Kyle Batson says the 22,000-square-foot complex was built in 1974 and had been empty for five years. Recent renovations include two digital projectors, stadium seating in four of the auditoriums, new screens and new sound systems, a completed concession area and the addition of an ADA-compliant restroom in the lobby. The theater opened with eight auditoriums in service, but plans are to open two more. Batson says the entire facade of the building soon will be renovated.

The Kansas City office of Kraus-Anderson Construction Company has begun construction on the Weir Ambulatory Surgery Center, 9913 S May Ave. The 16,700-square-foot medical clinic was designed by Minnesota-based Sperides Reiners Architects.

The $3 million project includes a 7,200-square-foot ambulatory surgery center and a 1,500-square-foot Lasik laser clinic. The facility is owned by Dr. Kurt Weir, and is expected to be completed early this year.
