John Allgood, 35

OKCBusiness Staff
10.17.2005

What John Allgood, 35, does for a living is such a reflection of who he is and his personal interests it's difficult for him to determine exactly what's work and play sometimes.

Sound like spin? Well, how many people do you know who are blessed to hang their hat at the SBC Bricktown Ballpark from 9 to 5?

"Being able to work in a profession that centers around baseball and entertainment is obviously unique. It's so enjoyable going to work," said the Oklahoma RedHawks' executive director.

He admits the position is so much fun, if it weren't for his wife and two daughters and the need to balance work and home, it easily "would consume my life."

To his credit, Allgood's career path hasn't meandered. While an undergraduate at the University of Oklahoma, he interned in the Athletics Department. And while earning a Master of Science in sports management from Oklahoma City University, he joined Premier Parks, or what is now Six Flags Inc.

For eight years he has been with the RedHawks and considers helping to open the ballpark in 1998 as his most significant business achievement. Under his stewardship, the team has set attendance records for minor league baseball (some 500,000 attended games this year - a record for the team and the state), secured the Big XII baseball tournament again for Oklahoma City, and has landed high-profile, major league exhibition games.

Somehow, he still manages to adjunct teach at OCU and serve on the boards of the Bricktown Association and a nonprofit close to his heart, the Limbs for Life Foundation. His goals, though, are simple, he says.

"I just want to entertain and provide a wholesome, family choice for the people of Oklahoma, while leading a sports franchise that also serves as an economic development tool."
