The
Eastern Oklahoma County Turnpike Gate, first slated for construction
more than 30 years ago, broke ground June 25. The gate is 11 miles east
of the Turner Turnpike entrance in Oklahoma City.
This is a cooperative effort between Oklahoma County, Oklahoma City,
the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and the Oklahoma Department of
Transportation. Oklahoma County contributed $3 million in funds, the
Turnpike Authority offered $2.65 million, the Federal Highway
Administration granted $2 million, and Oklahoma City chipped in
$750,000.
