A compilation of metro-area sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission shows cities are seeing smaller declines in year-over-year comparisons. Oklahoma City experienced its 14th consecutive drop, but by far the lowest negative dip to date.
April's distribution of collections, primarily representing local tax receipts from February business, shows declines in four of seven metro-area cities when compared to the same month last year. Those cities include Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman and Guthrie.
Midwest City saw a 1.54-percent increase with its April distribution when compared to the same month last year; Moore, a 3.05-percent increase; and Chickasha, a 7.36-percent increase.
Oklahoma City’s April distribution was $26,368,666, compared to $26,440,511 in April 2009, representing a 0.27-percent decline – the lowest of its 14 consecutive declines.
Edmond experienced a 3.56-percent decline in year-over-year collections; Norman, a 3.59-percent decline; and Guthrie, a 1.26-percent decline.
When compared to last month's sales tax receipts, each city, with the exception of Midwest City, saw improvements with the April distribution.
