Unlike last month, a compilation of metro area sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission shows more cities are seeing declines. Oklahoma City experienced its 13th consecutive drop.
The March distribution of collections, primarily representing local tax receipts from January business, shows declines in all but one of seven metro area cities when compared to the same month last year. Those cities include Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman, Moore, Chickasha and Guthrie.
Midwest City saw a 4.9-percent increase with its March distribution of $2,052,279, compared to $1,956,756 in March 2009.
Oklahoma City’s March distribution was $24,993,018, compared to $26,676,316 in March 2009, representing a 6.3-percent decline.
Edmond experienced a 12.2-percent decline in year-over-year collections; Norman, a 6.4-percent decline; Moore, a 6.5-percent decline; Chickasha, an 8.4-percent decline; and Guthrie, a 20.6-percent decline.
All seven cities saw drops in March, however, when compared to February’s sales tax receipts, which primarily represented December 2009 business.
