Plans are underway for Jo’s Famous Pizza to open at 900 S Kelly Ave. at the former Lottinville’s Wood Grille location in Edmond. The restaurant also has a location at 1538 S Green Ave. in Purcell.
Caviness Landscape Design Inc., an Edmond-based landscape and pool firm, recently won an international award from the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals. The firm won the 2008 Silver Award in the Commercial Water Feature category for its design of an 11-foot-tall, 24-foot-wide lighted Oklahoma Centennial Waterfall at State Fair Park.
Kelly Caviness, owner, says winning an award was the last thing on his mind when designing the project, which includes a Color Kinetics lighting system capable of displaying millions of colors.
“I was really trying to see this project from every angle,” Caviness said. “I wanted people to be able to interact with it and for it to look as cool at night as it does during the day.”

In early February, The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine unveiled its Dr. Sheila M. Crow and Dr. Richard D. Husband Clinical Skills Education & Testing Center (CSETC), a 22,000-square-foot medical training center housed in the Garrison building at the former Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of OU Children’s Hospital, 940 NE 13.
Drs. Sheila Crow and Mikio Nihira partnered in developing the center where medical students are trained to master their skills in a simulated environment. One of the biggest advantages to such a setting is it allows for practice in a safe environment.
“In a simulated area, actors (mannequins) portray various disease processes where students’ team, communication, professional and other medical skills are assessed,” Nihira says. “Instead of teaching people in high-risk environments, have them learn and, more importantly, have them practice those skills in a controlled environment where you can permit people to make mistakes so they can practice what to do.”
The center features patient exam rooms, four large simulation suites and a surgical skills training facility, as well as training and conference space.
“Our high-fidelity simulators are very much like the real thing with eye reflexes, a pulse, blood pressure and more,” said Rhonda Sparks, M.D., director of the CSETC.

OKC CoCo (OKC Coworking Technology Collaborative) is opening a technology center at 715 N Hudson Ave., where eight founding companies will locate in April: New Look Media, Mateo Works, Sparkle Internet Image Solutions, elitespark Web Design and Development, Propeller, SNAFL Web Development, Dustin Brewer Web Design and Thirty Sixth Span Internet Technologies.
Derrick Parkhurst, of Thirty Sixth Span Internet Technologies, says the idea is to provide flexible workspace to technology professionals and entrepreneurs who don’t need a traditional office, but are looking for a place to work maybe one or two days a week or to come in for a few hours a day.
“We give them a desk they can use in a comfortable environment and access to conference rooms or work rooms where they can bring in clients and work with them and so on,” Parkhurst says. “It’s a professional environment, but also very community-oriented because it has that open floor plan.”

Kun Won Yu, also known as “Terry” of Terry’s Supermarkets, is opening a second full-service El Mariachi Super Mercado at 3020 NW 16, a former Homeland grocery store site.
Yu entered the metro area in 2007 when he opened his first El Mariachi at 415 SW 59. Patrons quickly embraced the store, where hard-to-find authentic specialty foods, spices and ingredients can be purchased.
