“We want to look at the issue from
every possible angle to make sure we are doing what is right and
appropriate to safeguard our community and our schools from extreme
weather events,” he said. “Our top (city) council priority is to
provide a safe and secure community.”
Members were chosen to ensure a diverse
group to discuss storm-related safety in the community. Cornett said
he wants members to look at areas including emergency plans and
procedures, and infrastructure improvements.
Task force members include Ward 4
Councilman Pete White and Ward 5 Councilman David Greenwell, whose
wards were affected by the May 20 tornado. Other members include
Oklahoma Secretary of Education Janet Barresi; Xavier Neira, Oklahoma
director of development for Manhattan Construction; and Harold
Roberts, COO of ASTEC Charter Schools.
