In mid-2012, developer Richard McKown plans to bring a
branch of Norman-based Native Roots Market to his Level Urban Apartment
development that is under construction. The grocery store will occupy 3,000
square feet and sit at the corner of N.E. 2nd Street and Walnut Avenue.
McKown said he is excited to bring a grocery store to downtown, and is still working
out details for the anticipated opening next year.
Other areas of downtown are also slated for new and
expanding retailers. On Automobile Alley, Schlegel Bicycles plans to open an additional
store across the street from its shop at 900 N. Broadway Ave. in 7,000 square
feet. Construction on a 6,600-square-foot Hideaway Pizza is underway on
Automobile Alley in a former CD Warehouse store, and set to open in late July.
Three new businesses are headed for Bricktown. Sammy’s
Pizza, in the works for more than a year, has plans to open this year. In
addition, the chamber reports Bricktown will be home to the 7,000-square-foot
Purple Martini in August, and Norm’s Dockside Bar in 2,000 square feet in
Other businesses expected to open in the coming months
include Coolgreens in a ground floor space at City Place, 204 N. Robinson Ave.,
and in MidTown, Surang Lau Florist is set to open in 811 square feet at Plaza
Court, 1100 Classen Drive.
Earlier this year Elemental Coffee opened in 800 square feet
at 803 N Hudson, and Joey’s Pizzeria became the first restaurant to open on the
revitalized Film Row on the west side of downtown.
